Class Experience: Connecting to the artwork

During this assignment, I unconsciously connected to my artwork on a deeper level. The directive was to draw an image out of darkness. On the black paper i began to paint an image with no plan. I drew one line and then another creating an image of what i interpreted to be a dancer. This image resonated with me in a variety of ways. I had always been a dancer since I was young and when I dance I find a focus where I am in my own world, concentrating on the movement and relieving the stressors in my body. After I had drawn the abstract piece that i interpreted to be a dancer, I connected that this feeling that I experience through dancing is an instant escape out of darkness for me and something that I have not done in a year or two due to my busy schedule. I also noticed the colors i used which are red and pink. These are both my LEAST favorite colors in the entire world. I don't own red or pink clothing and I was unsure why I chose these colors but it created a calm and relaxing image to stand out on black paper. I also do not see myself as a great artist and I felt this piece reflected on myself greatly and I was proud of the work I had accomplished.
