Childhood Memories

Honestly, this week brought me back to great memories as a child. The first drawing I was immediately taken back to my third grade art class, and I could remember where I was sitting, what the classroom looked like, and even the smell of the room and all its materials. It's amazing what comes to memory as soon as you draw something familiar. Also with the play exercise, it was hard at first to tap into the imagination, especially since we're adults and I felt a little silly, but nonetheless it was fun to allow myself to feel like a kid again.

  1. Sarah, I appreciated getting to be a part of you tapping into your childhood memories. It's amazing how a memory can tap into your senses like the "smell of thr room." I also was brought back, but had a lot of trouble staying with those feelings i remembered while i was little and immediately flipped the page and drew something more comforting which became a tree. I am very drawn to animals and felt at ease taking on the persona of a whale and duck (shown in your picture). I think I am comfortable being child-like because I have spent a lot of time with young children and at some point i just let go and stopped fighting the desire to be silly and playful. I am glad that you got to take a ride on my whale back and we swam to Hawaii for a nice vacation. : )
