Art Therapy Collage Session

Hi everyone, today Katie from our class and I did an art therapy session together.  We made collages out of mostly random images and words and then took turns talking about how each item related to our lives.  Katie mostly focused on the past week, and I related my collage sections to anything in my life.  It was very interesting and I learned a lot.  I found that in the context of our session, the recent stuff was really some of the best stuff to talk about and I felt relief when talking about some things that had already been on my mind lately.  I think this kind of activity could be adapted in many ways to different clients and situations, and I was happy to get to see what it was like.  A nonrandom collage session could also be good and maybe better, and whatever materials there are to choose from already provide a little bit of the random element. I think this concept could also be a fun game to play just with a newspaper or magazine sometime and people could point to words or images and get to know each other.

  1. I really liked this art session. I definitely can tell that this can be changed and adjusted to different client age groups which is very helpful. I also like that you can have it focused on the client's past week, a event that happened to him/her, or anything else that is relevant to a client.
